My name is Charles Haylock. I am a multidisciplinary student at the University of Connecticut with a passion for emerging technologies (blockchain, IoT, machine learning, etc) and their implementation in business, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Languages, History, Information Technology, and Digital Humanities.
As someone with multiple diverse skills, I like to help individuals and organizations find dynamic solutions to complex problems. I am currently working on learning more about blockchain technology and its business use cases. My aspiration is to join an innovate tech company in a position dealing with either business operations, international business, analytics services, or similar fields.
I divide my time between the states of Connecticut and Ohio. However, I am open to settle anywhere in the United States and abroad.
⏵ Manage a streaming server that is utilized by more than 30,000 students and 5,000 faculty across the University of Connecticut. ⏵ Collaborate with e-librarians in data collection, manipulation, and presentation. ⏵ Facilitate the maintenance of the more than 1 million e-resources the University of Connecticut has access to. ⏵ Transfer, convert, encode, and stream videos for academic support. ⏵ Provide technical and research assistance to undergraduate, graduate students, as well as faculty and staff, who utilize e-resources. ⏵ Represent the Licensing & Acquisitions unit in public engagement events by talking and assisting new and current patrons.
⏵Employed data journalism skills by authoring posts on the Data Center's blog highlighting particular data sets through both interactive and static visualizations, as well as accompanying analytical observations. ⏵ Conducted Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures on center-wide GIS projects. ⏵ Established file management standards in order to keep a structured organization of center-wide projects and their respective files. ⏵ Utilized ArcMap 10 and ArcCatalog 10 to polish and revise GIS files (.shp, .mdx, .gdb, etc.). ⏵ Invested time in professional development by expanding GIS skills through training and education (mostly through the ESRI training platform).
⏵Collaborate with the maintenance of university residence halls in coordination with other university departments like Facilities, University Events and Conference Services, etc. ⏵ Coordinate check-ins and check-outs procedures for conference guests and university summer students. ⏵ Utilize different packages of software from Adirondack Solutions to properly run residence and conference services. ⏵ Provide quality customer service both in person and over the phone. ⏵ Reinforce the creation of a welcoming and inclusive community through the creation of bulletin boards with tailored resources (i.e: entertainment, health related, sexual violence, and campus activities), as well as providing in-person assistance. ⏵ Report incidents in and around residence halls through proper means of communication in relation to, but not limited to, vandalism, sexual violence and harassment, noise complaints, substance abuse, etc.
